Street Urchin in Ancoats is one of those restaurants that doesn’t need to shout to stand out—it just quietly does everything right.

Run by husband-and-wife duo Kevin and Rachel Choudhary, it calls itself an “English market diner”—but that undersells just how good the food really is.

It’s seasonal, creative, and full of flavour. One day it might be tea-smoked trout on a homemade blini; the next, a cider-glazed pork T-bone with pineapple salsa.

The seafood bisque has become a bit of a local legend—rich, indulgent, and impossible to stop dipping your spoon into.

Inside, it feels like a cosy urban greenhouse. There are hanging ferns, potted herbs on tables, and mismatched vintage lampshades that make everything feel homely and a little bit magical.

Service is relaxed but sharp—the kind where you’re looked after without being fussed over.

If you’re after something unpretentious but unforgettable, Street Urchin nails it. A proper neighbourhood gem that always feels like the right choice.
